The Maughan Library collection covers all aspects of British history including political, diplomatic, constitutional, social and economic history; political theory; colonial, imperial and Commonwealth history; European history; American and Latin American history; military and naval history, church history and Greek and Byzantine history. 

A unique, internationally significant and continually expanding range of archival and printed sources are held by the College Archives, theLiddell Hart Centre for Military Archives and the Foyle Special Collections Library.

Collection strengths

Greek and Byzantine history; Portuguese history (including former Portuguese possessions); Latin American history; colonial, imperial and Commonwealth history; early American history (up to 1776); military and naval history; church history.

In recent years we have acquired the historical library of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Canning House Library’s collection of Hispanic and Lusaphone material.
